Couldnt help thinking that this story could be in the same semi fictitious realm of James Frey. The entitlement and arrogance of these parents who dropped their violent, seriously disturbed child onto the laps of various teachers and expected them to control her behavior when the parents themselves couldn't. They demand that educators mainstream Jani and try to ignore the school's increasingly frantic pleas for parental intervention. Admittedly you can understand why living with this problem would be exhausting, but these parents' aggrieved bullying of concerned professionals trying to help their child was really offputting.As others have noted there are incessant references to Jani's IQ, as if that justifies the out of control behavior; they can't pay their rent without crowd funding but think it a good idea to add a second child (who also grew up to be severely mentally ill) and an occasionslly abused dog to their toxic stew of a family.Seeing the psycho Susan on Dr Phil was worth a thousand words in describing the galloping craziness of this parent. In short, the book WAS interesting, but the whole story seems to be seriously askew. Still wondering what wasn't revealed as to why Michael would be so unsurprised by a late night visit from Child Protection? Why he gives one paragraph to his own disturbing mental illness in childhood? Why one casual reference to the fact that he may have caused Shaken Baby syndrome in Jani? WTF?
